Weddings in the 21 centuryQuirky Green

Vegan in a wild and classy way – Candace and Josh celebrated their wedding at the Malibu Nature Preserve in November: flowers were organic, food, wine and the amazing chocolate cake were deliciously vegan, the “guest book” patches will become a quilt, and who found a green Ninja on their pimento napkin (on gold linen) could take home the wrought iron candelabra center piece. A couple who plays Wii together with their friends on their rehearsal dinner will dance together for a long time: especially after a first dance accompanied by Kermit, the frog. The combination of quirky ideas and elegance was fun to work with, refreshing and heart warming. Their guests smiled till it hurt…
Country weddings
I love country weddings, one of the reasons being that we can have animals join the festivities: dogs as ring bearers, birds and horses as symbols of beauty and (domesticated) freedom and Zebras if we rent a vineyard like the Malibu Family Wines.
On December 6, 2008, Rebecca will ride into her wedding reception at the Mermaid Mansion on a beautiful Arabian horse. Her fiance Harry, not the avid horse man, doesn’t want to break his neck so her volunteered to “gallantly” accompany her on foot. I am looking forward to their wedding, working on the Neptunian decor right now…We are thinking of ocean themed candelabras. Updates will follow.
Prop 8

October 2008, before the election: Laurie and Susan celebrated their spiritual wedding on a magical Sunday morning at the Inn of the Seventh Ray, while Joe and Gary opted for a mystical dark night, including a sword to cut the cake and knightly vows.
Both events were heart warming, with tears of joy and tears of laughter.
Organic wines and veges, free range chicken and wild caught fish and the organic wedding cakes supported the spirit of change towards a mindful future. But then of course, the election happened and California decided this is not supposed to be. Equal rights for all, where was that promised again?
September Wedding on the Bluff
When we were taking pictures at the Malibu Nature Preserve on the last weekend of September, amazingly mystical clouds moved in and covered the ocean. Overlooking a Native American prayer circle this site gets “greener” every month. Especially with us working there, getting eco-limo in and Michelle’s delicious vegn chocolate cakes…
Living with Ed….who takes the “crisis” into his own hands.
The sun comes out. I’m walking my dog around the block in my fancy pajamas dreaming of 2012 and my meeting with Roland and Volker. A busy beeping sound brings me back to reality and what a reality! One of my proud neighbors rattles by in his electric car, which he built in his back yard during the last 8 years….
Cute. I so wanna be a journalist again. Green Gossip…
Glitz with mindful Sprinkles
I visited the “Wedding Salon” 2008 at the Beverly Hills Hotel on September 22. Not green but certainly an interesting experience. Read on…
Destination Wine Country
That San Luis Obispo is amazingly pretty and couples love to dance around wooden barrels filled with the red juice of heavenly dreams isn’t that new. But that organic vineyards opened their gates to loving couples and wine country hotels change to greener habits that’s exiting and happened just about yesterday.
The locals love for detail will spin any brides head in a land where even trash containers are vino-fied.
Wolff vineyards is proud of their sustainable practices and invites people with love for nature to hold their special events in the beauty of their property. Rowdies who slam with their cars around corners and suffocate the vines in clouds of dust better stay in LA.
Organic vintners are amazing as they not only relieve us from heavy hangovers but the earth and water from tons of pesticide. But it’s not only Tablas Creek and Pipestone Vinyards in Paso Robles or the boutique winery Klumpp and Domaine Alfred in San Luis Obispo, which make the third biggest wine producing area California’s worth visiting. Eco Awareness is somehow a given here: bikes are parked everywhere, electric scooters wait to be rented, small cafes offer organic choices and remind you of your earth loving duties.

There are several green hotels and businesses who produce and buy local.
To walk around in this small town is like opening a treasure chest: Monterey St. Wine Co. is THE place in San Luis Obispo for fine wines and delicious cheeses. Hopefully you didn’t get high in the coolest organic herb shop “Secret Garden” as you might miss out on Bambi nodding her Thank you that you didn’t roll over her on the lonely road.
You also won’t wanna miss the local artisans.
Seriously interested in checking the magic lands, healthy air and tasty grapes out for your weddings? Call the girls from the wedding gallery or a green planner in LA to set you up. Don’t forget to hire a bus per 60 guests and to buy carbon offsets:)
Tango&Cash
After training in Los Angeles for several months Mieko and Giancarlo did the Tango in Topanga (June 2008) and they also did the cash – asking everybody to pitch in to pay for their trip to Japan and Italy. The couple combined three wedding trends: 1. train for your first dance, 2. ask for eco-friendly money gifts for your travel fund instead for stuff wrapped into more stuff and 3. experience an adventure wedding. They traveled to their homelands to wed in honor of their lineage. (Calm your conscience with carbon offsetting your travel) Viva! cross culture marriages, you get so much more for your money. Imagine: a Japanese ceremony in a Shinto temple followed by a kekkon hiroen (reception) where you drink Sake and change your Kimono and dresses several times. (which you don’t just use for one day) Then sing Italian love songs to acoustic guitars at your big fat organic Italian wedding in the country side of the Toscana with local wine and artisan cheese..
Dance Instructors like Isabella’s Dance Academy in LA are prepared to train couples within days.
What’s the opposite of green? Posh?
For their August 8, 2008 wedding Martha and Fernando hired Artem Chigvintsev, a celebrity instructor from “So You Can Dance”. The couple showed a dazzling first dance in front of 350 guests in LA’s Millenium Biltmore Hotel. Hot! Hot! Hot! Unfortunately every filet mignon, jumbo prawn, glam ice sculpture, pesticide soaked flower and guests-presenting-gold-tickets-and-getting- chic-lapel-pins- in-return made the planet even hotter.

Viva Polar bears: The English don't like to be lied at by a company that finances disputes of global warming. Eugene Shandu in Daily Green reports: "The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has made a ruling against an ExxonMobil television ad that uses imagery that relates their carbon-emitting power source to wind and solar power and suggests liquefied natural gas (LNG) is super clean."
The discussion is putting big bad Exxon in the news again, the heat is on.
Who will win? The rise of consciousness we hope.
